Honey- Garlic Chicken

Honey- Garlic Chicken

Honey garlic chicken is the perfect blend of sweet and savory. The subtle glaze made from slowly baking chicken thighs is enriched with deep flavors of roasted garlic. The recipe is very easy and versatile and can be put together in minutes. It also takes less time to bake than whole chicken. The center of the plate dish can be made to accompany any number of starches and vegetables.

Ingredients you will need for honey garlic chicken

  • Chefs like to make this dish with chicken thighs. They are very popular in commercial kitchens not only due to their awesome flavor, but also because they tend to hold moisture longer without drying out. They are also pretty bulletproof and hard to overcook. We use bone in thighs with the skin on for this recipe, but boneless skinless will work perfectly fine as will breasts or even whole chicken.
  • Turmeric. Turmeric has anti inflammatory health benefits, but we use it here to give some sheen to the glaze. It also tastes really good! Turmeric goes really well with honey
  • Honey. We love garlic and honey! Especially on chicken. You can also use maple syrup with this recipe for a little more distinct flavor.

Other serving suggestions and ideas!

  • Try adding some thinly sliced jalapenos when baking for added spice.
  • Add minced ginger and a splash of soy sauce for a stir- fry type umami flavor.
  • Add a few tablespoons of butter and some chicken stock for a pan sauce that can be spooned over rice.
  • Finish with fresh squeezed lime juice for an acidic punch.
  • Saute spinach to serve with this- perfect flavor profiles with garlic, honey, and spinach. Other greens such as kale and swiss chard work great also.
  • Serve with french fries and salad for a bistro style meal.
  • Add fingerling potatoes to the baking dish and have them ready at the same time. This also works great with brussels sprouts and winter squashes such as butternut and acorn squash, or sweet potatoes.
  • Serve with the pan sauce over mashed potatoes or noodles with grated cheese.
  • Use the pan sauce for sauteeing mushrooms, asparagus, or green beans.
